Thursday Three ...A question

Question: Suppose the government hires you to be the only person working in a missile silo deep deep underground all alone for a month (you're the guy who has to be there to push the big red button should war break out). You have to stay there by yourself for a month with no contact to the outside world. All your basic necessities such as food, clothing, and even a Gideon's Bible will be supplied for you. You get to pick three and only three personal items to bring with you. What would you bring? (Note: there is electricity in the silo but no tv/cell phone/ internet reception)

Answer: I would bring an ipod with all my favorite music on it, a large book of fun math and logic problems, and a large box of peanut m&m's. I think if I could work math problems while listening to music and munching on m&m's, I would be quite content alone for a month.

What three things would you bring?

  1. Jennifer is always saying- "Why don't you post on my blog?". I always say "because I am telling you right now". She can't seem to grasp the logic in this statement. So as a gift to her shall post. I usaully do not like questions like this because I tend to "think out of the box" too much and it ceases being fun rather early in the thought process. I actually came up with an answer I liked for this question. Also turning a thought into the written word tends to make the idea more cogent and cohesive. So without further adue...

First- A guitar (not a real shocker for those who know me)
Second- An Ipod (what ever the biggest one they make now, who knows how much these things can hold now!) I would fill it with my CD collection and a plethora of books on tape. I have always wanted to read books like Anna Karenina or The Brothers Karamazov to name a couple. You know those very long books but great classics. When I have time to read I get shorter or lighter things like C.S. Lewis or Francis Schaefer or maybe the re-reading of the Lord of the Rings trilogy or maybe the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. I would of course have all kinds of other fun books that looked good to read for the first time and the great books that I love to read over like Walker Percy's Lost in the Cosmos or The Air Conditioned Nighmare.
Third- To top it all off I would have a nice porch swing with the right length chain to have the perfect swinging arc. I would play my guitar, listen to my music/books on tape while swinging on my swing.

  3. 1. Like everyone else, I'd bring an ipod full of music and books on tape. *BUT* Unlike Michael Paul's smart people/classical books, I'd be filling my ipod with psychological thrillers and romance novels!

    2. Like Julie and Jennifer, I would bring a puzzle book. Specifically, Dell's Variety Puzzle book Value Pack. I order this for myself at Christmas sometimes. It's a bunch of old issues at a cheaper price. I'm getting excited just thinking about it.

    3. My digital camera. I'd use it to look at pictures of my kids during my month alone and also to document my experience so that I could blog about it later.

  4. 1) Scrapbooking supplies...I am finally taking pictures and would like to actually organize them. (Do I miss the point by bringing a theme?)

    2) a fully loaded kindle...I'd like to read my usuals, Jane Austen, Lousia May Alcott...and I'd like to read those I always thought I'd like to try...and I like to actually read...there are a LOT of narrators that have just about caused me to hate certain books...and to be honest, there is so much loud in my life, I'd really like a chance at silence to get to know myself again.

    3) Some kind of Word document thing-y to write all the blogs and ideas rolling around in my head that I could post later...

  5. 1) Books in the MPT genre on IPOD
    2) A hymnal
    3) A technological writing implement - to write that book my kids are afraid I'll actually write! :D

WOW! would that be fun. . . and what a fun idea to reflect on, Jennifer! Thx for firing up the synapses with this challenge to reflect upon!
